FEEDBACK
Week 2: Your discussion can start with a brief intro to the two brands you are using followed by discussion to answer RQ1 and RQ2. By next week, please have the 5.1 done and maybe at least a breakdown of what you want to discuss on 5.2 and 5.3.
Week 3: If the information is compiled from multiple sources, make sure both are cited. Since this is just a dissertation, the figure numbers can be simplified (Figure 1, 2, 3,..). It is good to have all the chapters already so it can ease you when numbering the figures. No need to waste the graphic design related information on the brief introduction, hence it will be needed for the discussions. Maybe can add some information of what products and services do the brands offer. You can explain why you are only going through these design elements (colour, shape & typography) in the 5.2 introduction. By week 5, try to have 5.2 covered and get 5.3 started.
Week 4: Public Holiday
Week 5: Change all the brand identity elements to the elements of brand identity. Add more citation in the paragraph. Remember to paraphase even though it's already cited to make sure it won't detect by turnitin. Also, must include primary data to support, not only include secondary data. The project recommendations is not compulsory. For the abstract part, you have to include methodology, RO and RQ.. 200 words is enough. Move on to conclusion and show it on Week 7.
Week 6: Public Holiday
Week 7: Add some pictures on the discussions, remember to number the figures consecutively for draft submission. Change the 5.3 heading, make it more relevant to the content being discussed. It's great to know that you are aware with your own work, making decisions while working on it means you know what you are doing. Can add some quotation from the survey respondents and do more research on citing quantitative data in APA format. Great start on the conclusion, finalize it with why you started this research.
Week 8: Independent Learning Week
Week 9: You have to have names for your concepts not just concept 1 and concept 2. Montserrat is a great type choice for bodytext. Make sure to have decided on which concept you are going with by next week.
Week 10: The cover sketches look promising, however not sure if the calligraphy thing inside the first yellow rectangle works. You can also try to only show a partial of the McDonald's logo like how you did for the 7-Eleven. The shapes you are using for the inside pages look kind of off and irrelevant, remember to maintain the consistency of these elements.
Week 11: No class
Week 12: Move the title on the cover to the center instead of putting it on the bottom. You can probably put the author name under the green square, try and see how it looks. I would say using green coloured text is acceptable as long as you have contrast on your design that all of the contents are still readable.
Week 13: I suggest you to download the raw template again so you can check the font and size, also the images should be in the same positioning. Please download the typeface from Teams. Don’t forget to add my email after yours. The keywords should be between 4-5. Add more words about graphic design and brand identity on the introduction section, divide it in 2 paragraphs. It is fine if you don’t have them in your dissertation. For the citation, put the surname only. If you don’t have the year information, use n.d.. Start the methodology be recapping your research problem and then tell what your research approach is. The citation for research articles should be in complete form. Can remove those references you don’t cite in the article. Good to go, next week I’ll see your results and findings and the submission will be on the Sunday.
Week 14: Include your student email as well as you did this article when you are still a student, however keep your personal email just in case someone needs to contact you for a further research when you have graduated. Add the number of respondents after you write the percentage or whenever you use words like "majority" et cetera. I think you are good to go, just need to add some final touches and it is ready for submission.
REFLECTION
This module was not as tough as Design Research Methodology because I think we have pretty much done all the heavy parts back then. This semester I did a lot of summarizing which almost felt like double-working. If in the previous year we have minimum word count, in this one we got maximum word count so it was kind of frustrating to see how much words I have to cut off while it has spent me forever to come up with in the first place. The assignment that required the most work was probably the e-book. However, I'm grateful that I am taking Publishing Design in the same semester so I am able to apply the knowledge I received from Mr. Vinod on my design publication. What I did not enjoy the most is making sure all of the figure, table and page numbers are accurate, everytime I did a revision these numbers must changed and it just very exhausting to have to fix it over and over again. The good news is all those things do not matter anymore because I have gotten through it! It still doesn not feel real that I have completed my dissertation, big hugs to Miss Jinchi for making it happen! Her feedback has always been very useful and I was so lucky to have her as my supervisor. Cannnot believe that I am saying this but Miss Jinchi kinda made the entire dissertation enjoyable, well at least for me. I am really looking forward to meet her one day, not only through Teams. She is one of the many lecturers that I look up to and it has been an honor to be one of her students.
